DHS Secretary and Canadian minister of public safety issue joint statement.
The U.S. and Canada have relaunched the Nexus trusted-traveler program for those who travel frequently between the two countries. The Nexus program was suspended for almost a year due to internal conflict, but the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have altered the program accordingly to offer the service again to travelers. The agencies estimate that the reinstatement of this program will increase Nexus’ application processing abilities by 50 percent.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Canadian Minister of Public Safety, the Honourable Marco Mendicino, issued a joint statement, saying, “Efforts have been made to ensure every qualified U.S. and Canadian traveler has the opportunity to benefit from the facilitated travel that NEXUS brings, supporting communities and economic interests on both sides of the border.“
